Advocacy Services
Do you have special needs kids? Do your children struggle with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), Attachment Disorder (AD), autism, mood disorder, or other behavior problems? Would you like more support with teachers, schools, social workers, and IEP meetings?
The advocates at Hirshberg Consulting empathize with you, and we can help. We offer the following:
- We will attend teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and meetings with social workers with you to support your position. We can do this in person, over the phone, or on an internet webcam.
- We will call or write letters to teachers, social workers, judges, lawyers, congresspersons, and senators to petition for the services you need to raise your child.
- We will attend court hearings regarding your child with you.
- We will recommend resources, articles, and books that will assist you in making your decisions.
Our goal is to get your voice heard. We are not lawyers and do not offer legal advice. Simply put, we are another voice on your team. We can help you find the words to express your position when you are too upset or exhausted to write them yourself.
As an illustration, picture your last IEP meeting. Who attended to represent the school? Your child's teachers, principal, school social worker, school psychologist, guidance counselor, teacher's aide, and speech therapist?
Who was there to represent your position? You? Your spouse? It can be awfully lonely in such a meeting when you are surrounded by twelve professionals who may be presenting opinions and advice that differ from your parenting philosophy.
Now imagine having one, two, or three professionals at the meeting sitting with you to support you. Doesn't that feel a little more balanced?
We have some examples below of letters we have written on behalf of families with special needs children to schools. Names have been removed or modified for privacy.
